The Life Complex - by Bob Atkinson

The Life Complex
(c)2015 Bob Atkinson

seeing becomes believing
when we discover one who tries
to envelope all life's facets
from birth to end of time

track instances of soothing
to work out something grand
outside our institutions built
for use of sedate man

feel I've not been forceful
in accomplishments or fate
not knowing nor understanding
how much to percolate

through open intervention
or absorption of great passion
see a wall which blocks my vision
not my talent and intention

perhaps a key unlocks our drive
our super being becomes purged
of lethargic inaction
butt planted on a curb

when with imagination
could drive out to the coast
and carve a harbor deep enough
to dock just any boat

no, don't see me situated
on a hill above this town
drawing pictures of construction
or roads beyond this realm

but, would have been nice
if my life had done what I
could look back and see divinely
stare me right there in the eye

Lobotted Brains - by Bob Atkinson

Lobotted Brains
(c)2015 Bob Atkinson

"... In ... perpetual oscillation of the civilized world between worldliness and otherworldliness, between the desire of the human mind to see life in the light of scientific intelligence and ... nostalgia for religious faith ..." Walter L. Dorn

however we see ourselves
we see a changing self
not fixed in attitude prepared
a mirror of development

a free and open soul sometimes
sometimes mired in dogma's muck
ever searching for an instinctive force
to layout our troubles on

'tis always never forward looking
'tis backwards in approach
why do we not relax our ties
this failure, I'll never know

we have an opportunity here
to love our fellow man
lay down our arms, pick up shovels
produce something that's grand

we have a planet designed for us
can work it to our taste
and build forever cities
of glass, with arched out grace

we feel this moment's passion
some need for to destroy
requires not complexity of thought
only flag waved, fist shake, slogans

no sense, or sensibility required
just rattling of our sabers
building requires study
of that we don't seem able

to those so quick to pick up arms
I salute your lobotted brains
and feel your passion deep within
while your disappearance I crave

The Emotional Revival - by Bob Atkinson

The Emotional Revival
(c)2015 Bob Atkinson

here we stand in disappointment
that wondrous formidable state
which we expected from our birth
to have been now elegantly arranged

didn't quite work out as we
ponder common pain
an overworked description of
poverty on a train

well, here sits opportunity
to begin a spurt of growth
an era finding gladness
of which I have bespoke

we're all in this together
if we admit some naked truth
we're creating a harsh environment
for elders and our youth

need to worship kindness
not violence and destruction
keep our mores more in a narrow
focused soft reflection

need to banish banishment
intolerance and desire
of one to conquer another's state
with violence of explosive fire

need to find in our hearts
an intolerance for hate
power hungry monsters
need be put here in their place

replaced by those who lay the stones
and build what treats our hearts
like a flower's openness
with gentleness of thought

Tension - by Bob Atkinson

(c)2015 Bob Atkinson

pressure pulling on my heart
tension stretching out again
balance not in equal measures
that strain of mortal man

to understand wild forces here
becomes a harder plight
for no matter where this begins
must have a worthy goal for life

straining, forced rigidity
seems sometimes more or less
that motivating process
not letting people rest

to sit without some super goal
leaves potential in the dust
so tension builds a strain of life
thereby motivating us
